As an avid photographer I recently treated myself to a Canon 60D camera, which takes wonderful hi-res photos. I've struggled for a while to find a nice large frame upon which to display my nice large photos, until nix finally released this big bad boy frame.

The photos when shown on this frame are great. clear, bright and BIG. It makes no sense to me to buy an expensive camera with a millions of pixels to then only display them on a small cheap frame.

anyway from a photo display perspective this is great. it's very very easy to use and has a simple nice black frame.

It can do video and music, but I'm just not interested in video and music on a frame, just photo, which his does very well. would recommend to anyone, especially technophobes as it's easy to use.

I previously had a smaller 8 inch frame. small is fine, but it really makes a difference to go large. The bigger screen makes sense given that I spent a good few hundred quid on my camera and I wanted a display to match.

frame performance:

- The large screen is bright and the image quality crisp

- The frame is very easy to operate; insert a memory card or usb stick and the photos start playing automatically

- plug in the usb cable supplied and the frames internal memory pops up on your computer as if you have just inserted a memory stick. you then just drag your photos and videos straight onto the frames memory. very easy.

Overall I really like this frame as the images are big and clear. Importantly the frame is very easy to use. my only downer on the frame is that it does not play HD video.

I was a little bit nervous buying this photo frame, I'm not a fan of buying brands I'm not familiar with that I can't go and play with in the shops. However this frame was a very pleasant surprise.

I have 2 Sony 7" frames myself, but was buying this as a gift. Resolution is most important to me and I like the ability to play music and video but that is secondary to me. I like the 7" frames, they are a great size for sitting on your desk at work, or anywhere you will be close to it. However I think they are too small for good display in say the living room or places you are moving around so I wanted to get something larger.

The good points:
- it's a large picture with good resolution, the detail looks great. (It's not HD, but it doesn't claim to be)
- simple to use, just stick a memory card in and your away (or load them onto the frames memory), if you're have trouble, the Nix website is rather helpful.
- you can split the screen to do different things, you can set particular music to groups of photos.
- very good viewing angle from left to right (not so great from below)

The not so good points:
- the resolution is good, but the colour is not the best, maybe I've been spoiled because I'm used to watching Bluray on my HD TV these days and I have an LED computer monitor but the picture frame is a little washed out. Still good, just not great - very good in comparison to some other frames I've played with.
- Video playback can be a bit tricky. Again there is a converter program and tips on the Nix website, also can be an issue if you've been filming in HD resolution without thinking about it and then expect them to play back. It's a good function to have but you need to think about the video format and resolution.
- Language choices are very limited, there's only the basic choices, English, French, Greek and a few others. Was a bit dissapointed with this as it's a gift for some Slovakians - Czech, Russian or Hungarian would have been OK too but no such luck. Still not to much of an issue as there really isn't much to read so I have taken some photos of the various screens and had them translated - although the icons are pretty obvious so you can get away without language but you wouldn't get the full use from the frame.
- the box had obviously been opened previously, there were finger prints on the frame and wipe marks on the screen. Don't know if this was a returned item or someone had just opened it to inspect it. Would have complained but the frame works fine so not to big an issue but a bit dissapointing.

My verdict, I got this frame on sale for £140, just missed out on the sale for £109. Next time it's on sale for £109 I'll be buying myself one for the living room to replace my 7" one. It's worth £140 but I don't have that kind of money to just go and spend when I've already got 1 good frame. Is it worth more? I'd certainly be looking harder at other products first but it is a good frame none the less.

It took me about a month to review and consider all (read top 5 brands) tripods on the market and finally I stopped at Giottos. Its a real value for money. At the beginning I wanted to go for a Manfrotto with a horizintal positionable center column but after having holded it in my hand I decided to look for something else cause it didn't convinced me to be sturdy enough. After receiving Giottos MTL9351 and having played with it a couple of times I was surprised how fast it is to set up and position and the center column is even more sturdy in bended position as expected - you just need to bu sure that all the bolts and knobs are tightened and in their positions.
I would definetelly reccomend this tripod to a friend.

The good and the bad, 15 Nov 2010

MTL9351b Tripod is excellent and easy to operate.Bit stiff at first but eases off.
Most disaappointed with the MH5011 3 way head quality it feels rubbish compared with the tripod.
The head does not default to 180 degrees in landscape nor to 90 degrees in portrait position.
The bubbles in the head are so tiny you keep missing them when trying to line up.
The head certainly does not appear to be Giottos quality.
All other tripod heads I have had all default to the correcy alignment.
I suggest just buy the tripod and get a better head.

I had a tripod that I have had for many years and thought it was time to upgrade.

I have spent the last few weeks looking at several makes of tripod and was contemplating Manfrotto, a well made tripod and comes highly recommended. The cost was a major factor and after due consideration the giotto I thought was better value for money.

The tripod is well constructed and will cover all my needs. The spirit levels are a good feature as landscape photography is my game, saves me from having to correct horizons on PC.

Definately recommend this product for the serious photographer or the novice.

Wasn't quite sure if I'd use this meter before I bought it as I was very happy with the meter on my Nikon D700. Well, after a short period of familiarising myself with the meter, I don't think I'll bother with my camera's meter any longer.
This little unit is superb, particularly if you add the Pocketwizard module to it - it just totally takes the work out of calculating lighting ratios for strobist work. I can trust completely the readings the Sekonic gives me and my histograms have never been better.
My only regret is that I didn't pick one of these up earlier. If you are even thinking of buying one of these, stop thinking.... just get one. You won't regret it!

Fantastic tool. Essential if you do studio work or portraits. My in-camera meter is good but the light meter is better. I own a D700 and have found that mixing flash with ambient lighting, especially outdoors, messes up my exposure, or at least I have to "experiment" a bit before I get good results. I would get this over the 308. It meters for flash and has the dual ISO buttons which means you can take a reading and get a reading for indoors (ISO 800 for example) and outdoors (ISO 200 for example) from a flick of the button. Illuminated screen and twisty head are ace. The little leather pouch it comes in is fab. I'm very surprised not to see more 5-star reviews. Great bit of kit. Highly recommended. If you're old school, you won't have any doubts. If, like me, you're from the DSLR revolution you may need some convincing. Trust me, buy this meter, do some tests and you'll know exactly what I mean. The light meter rules.

It was a toss-up between the L358 & the L308s which is the meter I was more familiar with having used it regularly at College.

Having said that I was glad I went for the '358' and feel it was definitely worth the extra coin, as I had a sneaking feeling that at some point in the future I would have needed the extra functions of the '358'(such as radio trigger compatability), and then being faced with having to fork out again.

My one worry with the 358 was whether it would be over-complicated, as tends to be the case with these type of things, as manufacturers cram in as many functions as possible to keep one step ahead of the competition. But I needn't have worried because even though the 358 is feature packed these features don't get in the way of normal operation & it is simplicity itself to use.

From the box this Sony mini HD camcorder is easily charged via the built in (pop-out) usb connector. All the software and user manuals are downloaded from the camera's built in hard drive and set up of both the camera and software is a relatively easy and straight forward.

I was impressed by the speed at which the camera boots up and is ready for use - less than 2 seconds. The face recognition is surprisingly accurate. The touch screen tends to need a firmer press from your finger to respond. All menus for settings and playback are via the touch screen - and as such is prone to become covered in finger prints. The 360 degrees lens adapter is little more than a gimmicky add-on that doesn't add any extra feature to the cameras use, in fact after several attempts of using it I concluded it's something that will probably never be used again.

Criticisms aside - down to the results from the camera. The photos come out a little grainy in low light, but in normal daylight they are surprisingly sharp and crisp and the colors are well balanced which overall provided pleasing results. That said, the results are not in the same league of a decent digital camera in the same price range. Video results are much better and I feel this is the job the unit was made for. From all mini the camcorders I've owned and tested this one undoubtedly provided the sharpest HD results I've seen, although like its predecessors the zoom is jittery when used when shooting, so if you're going to zoom in then do it before you start recording. The video recorder performed well above expectations in normal room lighting conditions. I expected the results to be dark and grainy as they were on the other models I'd tried but in this case they were quite clear and perfectly viewable.

So, to conclude. On price and photo results the MHS20 gets only three stars - if I could rate the video separately then it would get fours stars. It's undoubtedly one of the sleeker, sexier models on the market but it's a shame it doesn't quite deliver the results it should do considering its price.
