Feature rich, fantastic quality, well designed compact!, 13 Oct 2010

I got this camera to replace my older Powershot A560. That was a great camera, but I wanted something more pocket-sized so I’d be more likely to take it out. I’m a D-SLR user, so a few features of the IXUS 105 were important to me. The wide-angle lens was the biggest selling feature. I enjoy landscape and street photography and I’m used to the 18mm wide-angle I have on my Nikon D60, so having a wide-angle on my compact is equally important. Also great when taking self-portraits of the girlfriend and I, we still get loads of background in.

One great feature that’s carried over from my previous camera is the Long Shutter mode. This allows you to get longs exposures between 1 and 15 seconds. This certainly isn’t for handheld photography, but it allows you to get some great fireworks shots, smooth the surface of water, and other creative ideas.

Video quality is ok. Nothing to rave about, but there if/when you need it.
Photo quality is great. Not as good as I’m used to seeing on my D-SLR, but I wouldn’t expect that. If it wasn’t just a “convenience” camera to me, I would’ve opted for a higher end model with manual controls. But for the average person who just wants to take great photos with minimal fuss, this is a great option. It’s a very compact size, sits discreetly in your pocket, battery life has been excellent so far, and it’s extremely easy to navigate the menu system. The button layout makes perfect sense, and the switch to go from Video-Photo-Auto illustrates how straight-forward this camera was designed to be.
Comparatively priced cameras from other brands will probably give you HD video functions. You’ll have to decide yourself if that is reason enough to forgo this well-made, easy to use, high quality image-taking camera.

The brown colour is awesome too….that was actually probably the second most appealing thing about it!

Cheap, tidy little camera, 23 Aug 2010

I bought this as my friend has an older version, this was just the current version and recommend it. Really easy to use and featured in Pc-Pro A-list which I take to be a really good rule of thumb as these guys really do geek all over everything IT.
The menus are really simple and I’ve given it to girls for the weekend who openly admit to not being good with IT, but when I show them tne menu has 4 different picture modes with easy to read icons ranging from
    kids and pets – action
Moon with the Eiffel Tower – Night time
well you get the idea, its pretty straight forward isn’t it!
So if you want a fun, easy to use little camera then this is it. (I’d even go so far to say that I’ve had phones bigger than it – yes that includes my old N95!)

Am happy with this camera but do find it can be slow to capture an image & then go back to the screen. I bought it to have a camera I can have with me everywhere to capture my 12month old, I do find it a bit slow & I end up missing the moment or capturing it as she goes & does something else which is really frustrating..Size is great & picture quality is good.
